Individual Sessions/Systemic Psychotherapy

What is Systemic Psychotherapy?

Systemic psychotherapy is a form of family therapy and its aim is to reduce distress, conflict and communication among the family members.

Systemic Psychotherapy & Individual Sessions

Systemic therapy is very useful for individuals as it enables you to focus on your personal relationships, behavior patterns, and life choices and at the same time realise how they might be interconnected with the issues you currently face in life.

In particular by choosing to have individual sessions from a systemic point of view, it will enable you to identify long standing patterns within your own relationships and your relationships with other family members. This approach also assumes that a person’s emotional problems arise from difficulties in their relationships with others inside and outside the family. So when, someone develops a psychological difficulty, systemic psychotherapists tend to see the presenting problem not just as a stand alone problem; but rather as a reflection of either the family dynamics or as an invitation to explore other important relationships in the person’s life.

How does it work and is it effective?

  • The duration of individual sessions from a systemic point of view can range depending on the presenting problems. I have worked with clients that have agreed to work with me for a handful of sessions and there are also examples of people that have committed for a rather long term therapeutic relationship

  • Systemic therapy is considered a very effective therapeutic model, not only working with families but also with individuals as it helps people to find ways forward as well as to reflect on important relationships

  • As the majority of my clients are busy international professionals and therefore bringing family members together is most of the times impossible, (as they are based abroad), I make sure that the discussion reflects the nature of their family relationships as well as other important relationships in the people’s lives

  • The discussion will be geared towards getting information about each person’s beliefs, values, needs as well as inviting the client to see the presenting problem differently and ultimately create more constructive and honest relationships

  • The aim is to move away from blaming the client’s family but rather gain a better understanding about the family’s as well as the individual’s needs

  • In between the sessions you may be asked to think about our discussion, the connections which we made together and possibly complete some relevant tasks, which will enable you to start practicing some points already mentioned during the sessions

  • Psychotherapy sessions take place primarily in person as well as online

  • The fees are £110 for a 50 minutes session (same fee for face to face as well as online sessions). If budget is tight for you right now, I’m more than happy to refer you to another colleague.

  • In case you have private insurance, I’m registered with AXA. All I need from you is your account number as well as your authorisation code given by them!
